We purchased two of these to roast 40 lbs of coffee for client Christmas gifts. They are fairly easy to use, though also fairly hands on. Pros: Inexpensive Simple controls, very easy to learn Roasts coffee decently well, especially small batches Cons: Gets stuck when overfilled with beans Rubber grommet that holds lid handle on doesn't work. Had to jury rig both of our units We tried three kinds of beans and were able to get the dark roast we wanted out of one, but not the other two without burning. If you're having trouble getting a certain roast, make sure you have the right bean! Would buy again for small batch roasting

I tried 4, 6, 8, and 12 ounce batches. I settled on 8 ounces at 20-25 minutes in a car port outside. You will probably want a strategy for handling the smoke. Chaff can be blown off, and beans dumped onto colander or perforated pizza pan to cool. I season the non-stick surface with a couple of drops of olive oil - definitely debatable whether seasoning will extend the life of the surface. The inside of the lid gets coated with residue - easily cleaned with soft scouring pad and cloth. The large lid provides wonderful visibility of the beans being roasted, but you need to ignore the spinning chaff's color and concentrate on the bean color, roasting smell, cracking sound. My significant other and I agree that the finished product is as good as the output from more expensive roasters. Watch out for the packet that contains the washer and screw to attach the lid - definitely needed and apparently missed by another reviewer. One of the feet came off - I glued all of them to prevent that from reoccurring.

I just started roasting my own beans recently and absolutely love this thing. I’ve toasted up to 1 lb at a time and about 95% of the beans turn out exactly the same. I hope it holds up in the long run, but for now it’s great.

Upon receipt I roasted one pound of Columbian. First crack occurred at the 20 minute mark. 2nd crack occurred at about 30 minutes. End roast was Full City+. Got the job done. Build is kind of cheap. I don't know how long the roaster will last if I use it often.

So far I've done 4 roasts. I started with about 210 grams of green Primos. I ran the first eight minutes at 200C to push the moisture out then full temp. Hit first crack at 11:30 and second crack starting at 16:30. At 18.00 I have a dark roast with the oily look to the beans. I found my favorite personal roaster!

I was concerned about its quality, but it did quite well. It did take two runs to roaster the okra seeds we used for testing. It has a 10 minute max run time with 20 minute cool down period. Waiting is much better like constantly stirring the ingredient. I cannot speak of the time it would take to roast coffee beans if that is the use you attend, but okra seeds are much harder, so coffee beans should be a breeze. Also, we did not have any really smoke to speak of as coffee beans are said to have. My plan was to use the range hood, but it was not needed. Cleaning was easy as the surface in non-stick. I could not remove the stirring bars as mentioned in the manual. CS, if you could pass along how that is done I would appreciate it. Either way, cleaning is easy. The bars are at two different heights which help move around beans of different thicknesses. Can't wait to try other beans or seeds. As to the proper temperature or time, you will have to experiment as the manual is very brief. Great for kitchen gadgets.

The roaster works well. It took a couple batches to learn where to stop the roast and dump the beans. I used a hair dryer to blow the chaff off while stirring the beans. Of course, the roast smoke produced and the chaff removal necessitates an outdoor setting. The stirring wire reverses if the beans jam up. Good idea. The instructions say something similar to “do not operate for more than 10 minutes”. Yet, a flyer that came with roaster suggests a roast scenario that takes about 20 minutes. My roasting scenario takes about 15 minutes. (Correction)-- I used 1.5 cups of green beans for my batches. One might be able to do two cups. -- The power cord should be longer. I had to use a heavy duty extension cord.

The roaster is in Celsius only- which isn’t a big deal. I’ve noticed it runs a bit warm. Set to 180 I’m able to roast over 210 with the Lid on. The beans don’t all roast evenly at anything larger than 1/2 pound, for me that’s good. I like the extra notes from close-but-not-same depths of bean. Great for starting out at home roasting. I highly advise using a thermometer though.

No manual came with roaster. Seems cheaply built. Have to watch all the time. Does not turn off automatically. Have to guess at temperature setting.
